The Atomic and Molecular Physics Group at Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad is engaged in theoretical study of electron / positron / photon interactions with atoms and molecules. These interactions are of fundamental importance and is crucial in the understanding of a broad range of large-scale physical systems such as, planetary atmospheres, astrophysical plasmas, gas discharge lasers, semiconductor processing plasmas and fusion plasmas.
Our group has developed a unique technique to study collisions of energetic electrons at in an exceptionally detailed level. The current research is directed towards the understanding of basic physics during a collision processes. The atomic and molecular physics laboratory (APML) of our group produces enormous cross section data relevant to various applied fields. These cross sections are required for the development of modeling of the atmospheres of the Earth and other planets, plasma technology, fusion devices, radiation physics and biological sciences. The Spherical complex optical potential (SCOP), Multiple-Scattering Centre SCOP (MSCOP) and Complex scattering potential ionization contribution (CSP-ic) formalisms are used for the calculation of elastic, inelastic, total and ionization cross sections from ionization threshold to 5 keV. The R-matrix formalism is used for low energy calculations (<15 eV).
The data produced by our group are published in various journals and are compiled here in this DATABASE. The electron/positron/photon impact differential and integral cross sections for atoms and molecules for incident energy up to 5 keV can be downloaded using the link below.
